Yesterday, the Paley Center for Media hosted the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. portion of this year’s PaleyFest (see some photos here), and while we were there, we were able to talk to many people that make the show happen, including the boss man himself, Clark Gregg, who plays the well-loved Phil Coulson.
But… there is another character in Avengers fandom that is also well loved, and that is Loki (Tom Hiddleston). As we saw in Marvel’s The Avengers (spoiler warning), the last encounter between Loki and Phil Coulson didn’t go so well. What would happen if they met up again? We asked Clark Gregg himself what he thinks:
“That really is a great question, because it gets to the heart of what it means to be Phil Coulson and an agent of S.H.I.E.L.D.,” he said. “His personal desire would be vengeance. It would be profound. But at the same time, he believes the rule of law, or at least has done so far. I guess if he could keep himself from killing Loki, or trying to, he could have a moment where he’d almost have to thank Loki, because the journey that Loki sent him on seems to have made him go much deeper into himself and his life than he ever probably would have.”
