We just got back from an Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. screening and Q&A in Burbank, California, and before the event, we spoke in a roundtable with Marvel Television’s President, Jeph Loeb, about some of what we have to look forward to later in Season 2. (Which, by the way, had a great premiere… what did everyone else think? Come by our forum to talk about it!)
Those of us with Marvel Comics fan-person interests are most excited that Adrianne Palicki will be coming on to the show in the fifth episode of the second season as Bobbi Morse, a S.H.I.E.L.D. character better known to comic book fans as the Avenger Mockingbird. What intel could we get out of Loeb about what to expect?
“We absolutely know that Bobbi Morse is a very important character and has a huge possible future in terms of where she goes,” Loeb says. “She was first and foremost a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent and a scientist, and those aspects of her character are things that we get to play with. What I think people will be delighted by is that Adrianne Palicki has just sort of walked on, owned it, and in the space of a couple of episodes, feels so much like part of our cast that you don’t even remember when there wasn’t Bobbi Morse on the show. So, that’s, for us, the big fun, and the exciting part about it. There’s also a history that we get to play with, that is not part of the comics, but it is part of what we’re doing, and that becomes very apparent in her first episode, and we think that the audience will be kind of delighted by that.”
Bobbi Morse’s original goals as Mockingbird in the comics were to expose corruption within S.H.I.E.L.D.. Might she have a similar mission in the show? Loeb, who also won’t tell us the title of her first episode, won’t tell us. “The nice part about there not being levels anymore, is that I can just say that that’s classified,” Loeb says.
UPDATE: Entertainment Weekly has posted a first look at Bobbi Morse, which can be seen below, and even though Jeph Loeb wasn’t able to tell us, EW is reporting that the episode is called “Hen in the Wolf House.” Look for it on October 21. EW’s photo is seen below:
