S.H.I.E.L.D. On Set: Elizabeth Henstridge Previews Tonight’s New Episode

A new episode of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. airs tonight at 8PM (ET) on ABC (come by our forum for the countdown!)

While we visited the top-secret location where S.H.I.E.L.D.-y magic is made, we spoke with Elizabeth Henstridge a bit about tonight’s show, including the cameo appearance by none other than “The Man” himself, the legendary Stan Lee. Henstridge told us that Lee’s appearance was so secretive that his name was even changed on the call sheet!

“It was amazing,” Elizabeth enthused. “I mean, he’s so sharp, and funny, and lovely to everyone. He was so respectful, and apart from everything else, he filmed a scene on a moving train! We got to sit down for most of it, but walking on that thing – it was an old train, it was very rickety! If I was him, I would have fallen over. Just as me, I would have fallen over,” she admitted.

“I can’t believe he’s over 90. I mean, that’s insane to me. He was so lovely. Very professional. And each take, he just gave completely different versions and really put his own spin on it. He was the smartest guy on the train,” she said.

ELIZABETH HENSTRIDGE, CLARK GREGGThe action on the train – in an episode appropriately called “T.R.A.C.K.S.” – also sees Henstridge’s character of Jemma Simmons going undercover and playing a character in the process. While Elizabeth couldn’t tell us much about her character, she did offer some hints.

“I can say that she is very prepared for it. She’s not good at improvisation, so in her mind, this is her chance to shine as a character. So, she’s done a lot of character research. I can tell you it’s going to be a very well rounded persona, her undercover self, but it might not go quite as planned,” she teased.

Beyond tonight, Henstridge says “watch this space” regarding a possible romantic interest, and then she told us a little bit of what to expect in the latter half of Season 2.

“It’s gonna get huge,” she promised. “Stuff’s gonna go very crazy, very quickly, and it’s going to get dark.”
