In the lead-up for the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. panel at last week’s PaleyFest, we spoke to the Executive Producers of the show, Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen, with hopes of uncovering some secrets about what is coming up, as S.H.I.E.L.D. returns with the first of several new episodes on Tuesday, April 1.
We’ll have more interviews coming between now and Tuesday night, but for now, how about a Q&A with the producers?
KSITETV/SHIELDSITE.NET’s CRAIG BYRNE: What is the significance of the “Uprising” subtitle that we’ve seen on the show’s advertising?
MAURISSA TANCHAROEN: I don’t know. We didn’t do it. [laughs]
JED WHEDON: It’s just saying that we’re planning on airing a bunch back to back; it’s the idea that everything’s sort of coming to a head. There’s a lot of momentum; I’ll just say that.
MAURISSA: Definitely has a lot of testosterone behind it. “Uprising!”
What can you tease about that momentum that starts up on April 1st?
JED: We have a lot of balls in the air and we’re going to start paying them off. We can’t say anything because Marvel, but we’re very excited.
MAURISSA: We’re very excited that our audience will see a straight run – 16-22 is a straight run – so I think that’ll be nice for momentum.
JED: We think it will be rewarding.
We’ve seen the promotional images of Deathlok. Will we be seeing more of him?
MAURISSA: You’ll see more.
JED: You’ll see more of Deathlok, so soon. We love J. August and we love the character. There will be more coming.
Ming-Na Wen made a tweet a few weeks ago asking fans what they thought “T.A.H.I.T.I.” stands for. Does it stand for anything?
JED: It does stand for something, yes.
MAURISSA: Do you remember what it is?
JED: I do, but we can’t say at this point. But it does have the tell-tale dots. I’ll just say that the last letter is “Initiative.”
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. returns Tuesday night, April 1 on ABC! Don’t miss it!
